Concord is a historic town in Middlesex County, 20 miles west of Boston. This picturesque community is has beautiful homes, open spaces,
family-owned farms and commercial centers. The town population is around 17,700 people. There are many preserved historical sites within the town, including Ralph Waldo Emerson House, Concord Museum, Reuben Brown House, Sleepy Hollow Cemetery and more. There are a number of educational facilities and the town is very popular with families. The town center meets where the Sudbury and Assabet rivers form into the Concord River.
The town of Concord is steeped in history, character, and literary importance. Situated 19 miles Northwest of Boston, Concord is a highly desirable community. Historical events include The Battle of Lexington and Concord. This battle was one of the conflicts that triggered the American Revolutionary War. The North Bridge is often referred to as the location for the “shot heard round the world”. There is a reenactment of this battle on Patriot’s Day each year.
The Concord Museum displays one of the oldest and most treasured collections of Americana in the country.
The rich literary history includes notable writers Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Louisa May Alcott, Henry David Thoreau. Tourist attractions include the Thoreau-Alcott House, the Nathaniel Hawthorne house, and the Ralph Waldo Emerson House.
Concord Center and West Concord Centre offer a variety of small boutique shops, coffee houses, and restaurants. Bookstores, clothing stores, home decorating, toys, chocolate shop and more. The Colonial Inn adds to the charm.
The Concord school system is of the highest caliber. There are three elementary schools, a middle school, and Concord/Carlisle Regional High School. The schools rank consistently at the top in the state. Small classrooms, dedicated teachers, updated curriculum are factors for this excellence. Public transportation is a great attribute. The MBTA Fitchburg line is a commuter train that runs from the Wachusett station in Fitchburg to North Station in Boston. There is a train stop in West Concord and Concord Center.
Concord is easily accessible to and from Boston by the MBTA commuter rail and bus.
